Replace the hdd and spin in your backup...good to go.

If no backup do you have a copy of xp you can install?
Do you have a copy of this software you want to run that you can install?

if you have the orginal xp disk - what software are you talking about that is no longer available. If it is something you installed, then you are out of luck if you do not have a copy of it.

As I mentioned, although maybe not clearly, I still have the Windows XP disk and I have the disk from the software that I'm referring to, I tend to keep things just in case and I guess this is one of those times, now for a new hard drive.

If your going to shop local it might be best to remove the old hdd and take it with you just to be sure you buy the proper type.

As a seasoned PC user you know to keep backups or a way to reload the OS. Drives die, and a lot of things happen. I'm unsure why some continue to try to go without backup or a way back.
