If you buy an external enclosure (from newegg.com, etc) you can buy a new hard drive and then hook up the new hard drive in the external enclosure (you can't boot off an USB or firewire connection).
Then, use Symantec Ghost to transfer the contracts (Ghost the image from one hard drive to the other).
Then, you put the new hard drive in the notebook and whallah.
See X1000forums.com in the technical or upgrades section (do a search) for this topic as many there have done that when they upgraded to a faster hard drive.
Also, you can use the old hard drive in the external enclosure as a data drive (slave) if it has not completely failed later.
I have to replace my HD on my HP OmnibookXE3-CG laptop, running XP Profesional SP1 because it hasn't pass the diagnostic although it is working. I have half of my life in that HD including a lot of software that I had purchased or downloaded fron the Internet.
How can I replace the HD without to re- install all the stuff? someone tell me about to backed up the hd and reload with a Linux. It is Posible? How can I do that?
