Resolved Question

Hard Disk has disappeared from Desktop

Apr 13, 2014 2:19PM PDT

MacBookAir model 4,2

Mac OSX version 10.7.5

How do I get the Hard Disk to reappear on the desktop. It was here 3 days ago and now I can't find it anywhere.
I'd like the original instead of an alias, if possible. There is nowhere in my preferences that I can turn the Hard Disk appearance on or off.

take a look at Finder Preferences. You will find them in the menu bar when Finder is the active application.

Under the General tab, in the "Show these items on the desktop:" make sure there is a check mark alongside Hard disks, external disks and CDs, DVDs and iPods

With OSX version 10.7.5 I can't see "show these items on the desktop" when I go to General tab for Finder Preferences. I've never seen this. What version of OSX 10 started to include this option?

(NT) The key here is that he says the "Finder" preferences.

Force Quit Finder
Relaunch Finder
Finder Preferences
Show these items on the desktop:
unclick & reclick on Hard disks

And then I found my Macintosh HD where it belongs on the desktop!

Thank all for your help.

It would have worked just as well without the Force Quit but that makes no difference now.
