at the following site, you can download their free program and run it to test your harddrive (you might be able to do it online, if I remember correctly).

I am trying to format a previously used hard disk but can't do it. I'm using Windows 2000 Professional on a P-4 with 1G of memory. The disk is a 15G Western Digital Caviar that has been used (maybe abused) on another machine before it stopped working. When I attempt to format it, the format utility begins and just hangs there as though formatting. After a rediculously long period of time (I even let it run all night last night), when it still isn't finished I attempt to cancel but it gives me a warning that it's formatting. Obviously that's not correct. It appears to be just sitting in a wait state. What's going on here? Anyone know how to get around this problem? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
