Hard Disk Failure

Dec 10, 2005 1:54AM PST

Why is that occassionally events happen at the most inappropriate moment. Thursday I was loading new software into my iMac G5 when we experienced 3-12sec power failures within minutes of each other. When eventually steady power resumed, the iMac was off, normally it restarts after a Power failure. I started it using the power button but it did not complete the boot up process.
I next booted up using TechTool Delux this performed all of the checks these passed with the exception of the hard disk, the test report indicated that the disk required reformating.
I had my important data backed up using Apples 'back up 3' so wasn't too worried. However I discovered that I understood backing up, but didn't understand how to restore. Since then I have searched backup help but am amazed to be unable to find any help. The result is that a lot of my data has been lost.
There must be a lesson in there somewhere.
