Handycam Connection Drops

May 8, 2005 7:16AM PDT

I have a Handycam DCR-DVD300 and I'm using a fairly new Toshiba laptop with 75+ gigs of free space and a gig of memory. I'm connecting via USB (The camera does not have a fire wire connection as far as I can find). The problem is that my connection to the camera keeps dropping. Sometimes in the middle of transfer, sometimes I can cause it by just pointing the software to my camera, then my dvd drive, and then back. I've used 5 or 6 software programs, all with the same result. Once the camera is "lost", I have to reboot again to get the computer to see it again. I've found several similar posts on other forums but none with a better answer than "yeah, mine does that too. sony sucks". Any ideas??

Yup.

My lesson after trying this dozens of times is to go with Firewire.

Firewire

yes, but I don't see a firewire option on the camera. I have a 4 pin firewire port on the laptop, but nothing on the camera. Just a USB connection port which looks similar to the firewire, but slightly different. Any thoughts?

Then just put the DVD in your PC to move and edit such.
