HAL sound

A few years ago, using an earlier OS, I was able to use a wave file of HAL saying "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that" ( right from the 2001 sound track) as the first step in the shut down sequence. I still have the file, my name is still Dave, but I can't figure out how to get that to work again. Using an iMac /Mavericks. Could someone help me out with some ideas on how to accomplish this? I know it is trivial, but still a cool way to shut down for the night. Thanks, Dave

"I'm completely operational and all my circuits are functioning perfectly" was another of HAL's comments that were provided by a Control Panel that is long since gone.

I don't know of any way to resurrect what you are trying to do but I will take a look, now that you have jogged a memory bank

A System Preference pane (Control Panel) that will play sounds when certain events happen.

It's not free, but it is cheap, and is made by the same guy who wrote Typeit4me.

Software is called Sounds4Fun and is available, with a 14 day fully functional trial, from:

Just tried it this morning and it works in 10.9, running as a 32bit app.

The system works!!! There are too many odd sounds as other functions are used, but I will delete them; it will just take some time. I would still like to get the one you noted about all the systems working perfectly, but I can't find a down loadable file like that. Any ideas? Dave
