Had to format and reinstall when I got pop-ups from spyware

by DarCLew2 / February 23, 2007 1:31 AM PST

It was Registry Repair Pro, if you see this DO NOT PURCHASE it. It tried but I was very leery of that. This happened over a period of 3AM until 8AM. I had not gotten in the firewall yet but their list was
something I could dig out of the registry. No $29.99 for them. Said it was vulnerable to a hacker. Guess who that hacker was. Darrell L.

by gealarcon / February 25, 2007 11:32 PM PST

HI! I HAVE 'WINDOWS REGISTRY REPAIR PRO' FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. IS IT SAME AS THE ONE U HAVE? I PAID ONLY $9.99 FROM THE SITE.

You Can Prevent That

Before I install any new software, especially something that's going to mess around with my registry, I always create a restore point. This one little step can save you some major heart ache. So use it, and use it often.

The same person erred when I had to format and reinstall

You will see various popups all are a dark grey with black letters and one thing stood out. "I had 55 errors in my registry." Stop what you are doung and go to another site after a reboot. All had OK at the bottom. It is someone who is well aware of all the items that need repairing and it will attempt to frighten you with the messages, except he/she went to me two days apart. Kpt X-ing out all when I was loading, CA Virus, later, I had installed Ad-Aware SE (not updated and was loading up CA Antispyware after I deleted MSN Messenger from both Windows Add/Remove and in Program Files. It was still trying without my messenger but either the idiot realized he tried this stunt with me or CA Antispyware stopped it. Ran deep scans with Ad-Aware SE, CA Antispyware & Spybot S&D. I had right clicked those ads tosee if I could get the properties, didn't work. Darrell L.

Error on my part, it said it was Registry Repair Pro BUT
by DarCLew2 / February 26, 2007 4:28 AM PST

It was a false name it used. It was really Anti-Virus-Pro which is spyware. Another part was all the errors in the registry were all AOL items. Not only did I take the above precautions, I ahd the latest HOSTS File and had put all I had found, what Spybot S&D listed but a lot more. I will have to find that again because there are at least two floppies of new information on them and it came out in Feb. 13th, the earlier one was listed on UPDATES in this forum on Feb 2, 2007. I had put in aout 10% on the floppy and when I ran Spybot S&D, they asked for my CD! I kept thinking, what disk??? I have no idea how much the Privacy Tab on Internet Options can hold in Sites.
