Some emails are hoax telling you that there is a file in your computer that actually exists as system files or program files that are legitimate. Those are hoax messages.
If you suspect that your system is infected, run a virus, spyware, malware scan.
Use a firewall software. If you have already, ensure it is enabled and configured properly (review the settings).
Update all your applications including Windows.
I recently received an e-mail that had a file attached. To my alarm, it was a file from MY computer. That's, scary!!! Any idea's on how someone could do this and what they could have used to pull this off without any knowledge to me, would be appreciated. I run windows XP (sp2)have firewall and McAfee and alway's felt I was about as protected as could be. Also, if someone is literally accessing my computer, will they at least appear in the task manager as a remote user? Thanks. I surely would appreciate any suggestions, to overcome this.
