Hack PC monitor to be a tv

by jappasta / January 14, 2010 11:12 AM PST

I have been trying to save space in my room and are concidering options to get rid off the big CRT tv in the corner. I would like to replace it with a monitor I have been looking at the Acer X243HQ 23.6. The monitor has VGA and DVI input, my plan is to purchase a cable such as this and then connect it up to a basic AV switch, this would be used for cable box etc.. with the audio going through separate speakers. Also i would like to plug my xbox in, but want to play in hi def, so i was thinking that if i get a cable such as this and then converted it from VGA to DVI, as my xbox 360 is not the hdmi version, and the vga port would be used by the cable box

any comments or ideas would be much appreciated at the moment this set-up is only going to cost me around $200 as i have most of the things lying around at home.
thanks! jasper
