SKU's

Although there are going to be alot of flavors to choose from, I am actually happy about it as I can pick the OS that has the features that I want.

For instance, I don't want a home version and I don't want a media centre. I want a pro version that is tailored more to me. I don't want to make movies on my laptop, nor do I want to stream movies and TV shows to my system as I get off my *** and do things more productive then worrying if I am going to miss a episode of lost.

So I am not complaining and I applaud Microsoft for moving this way.

You say that now..

I usually say things like that, but then later on, I'm always thinking I want to try those other features out. The ones that I didn't opt for.

Now, if it didn't cost TOO much to upgrade to the next version so that I could have those features, it wouldn't be so bad.

The only thing that I don't like about the 7 editions is the fact that I'm going to have to explain each version to everyone who asks me which version they should get. So much easier with XP Home, XP Pro, Media Center Edition.

But, I do see your point. I am looking at it in a corporation model and what is needed and what is not.

I could see that down the line I "might" want some more features but at home. But there are a lot of them that I don't want. I just want to be able to do my job.

Personally ...

.. I think it's better to have all the features in one version, and only have one version to worry about. For me, I'd rather spend the money with all the bells and whistles I may or may not need, rather than spend more money after the fact to get another version with some particular tool that didn't end up in the version that I bought.
