Question

GTX1080 Ti loud during game

Sep 13, 2017 11:49AM PDT

Hello guys,

First I would just like to say that I am French, so English is not my mother tongue, meaning that I may make a few mistakes while writing this topic, sorry for that Happy.

I bought a MSI GTX 1080 Ti 2 weeks ago and I have noticed today (I am pretty sure it did not do it before) that it starts to sizzle (not sure with that word though... some kind of bzzzzzz) whenever I play.

I can say FOR SURE that it has nothing to do with the fans because it starts even before the fans start working.

Also, and here comes the funny part, I made the test with Skyrim+mods in 2560*1440 and it then starts to sizzle but WHENEVER I PAUSE THE GAME, IT STOPS.

So it is really like I pause, unpause, pause, and so on... and the graphic card really sizzles, and then not, and again, and so on...

So that is an electronic sound for sure. I have thought of coil whining but I have heard it on YT and it is completely different, being some sort of shrill music... My sound is way lower and almost uninterrupted.

Any idea?

Thanking you in advance and i wish you a good day from France ! Happy

And it didn't when new, it's a warranty issue. Make the call to see how to exchange it.

Really?

So you mean the fact that it did not do it at the beginning is a good enough reason to change it ?

Thanks for the super fast answer Happy

The best time to complain is early.

I've seen folk hang onto products and then miss the chance for the seller to exchange it. They are stuck with maker support and repair. Usually ends with the buyer very upset over just weeks old and already back to the maker's service centre.

There could be other issues like a barely good enough PSU but support/sales should know this.

Just in case, how about the PSU make, model or link to the PSU?

My PSU is a Thermaltake "Paris" 650W Gold. It should be enough right?

Got a 7700K and a GTX1080Ti, a SSD M2 500Go; a HDD 2To, A MB MSI Z270 Pro Carbon, 16 Gb RAM

Looks fine from here.

Ample PSU, single rail, would not suspect that.

How about this? Is there any non-standard power wiring from PSU to GPU? Someone tried a 2 foot cable and it didn't go well.
