Question

GTX 690 gpu problem

Dec 26, 2014 12:52PM PST

Hey. I really need help, like bad. My graphics card is freaking out lately and doesn't work like it used to. GPU one's power usage is incredibly low (24%) and GPU two's is 300-400%. 400 being the max, according to various programs I downloaded. I really need some help, please. Answer
TDP is not power usage.

But skipping all that tech talk, did you re-do the heatsink? I find that just like the link I'll supply it's not something we can ignore. That and fans or case air flow. Leave the cover off for now.

One last thing. Furmark is to stress out a card. So it's not a great thing except for what it shows and then it could freak out folk that are just beginning to work PCs.

Here's what I'd do next after the cover is left off and fans checked. -> http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-290x-thermal-paste-efficiency,3678.html

But it can't be heat, can it?

Both gpus are idling at 30-40 right now, I thought that wasn't bad :< This is all started after a driver update, but since then I used driver sweeper and installed an older one, but that didn't help. Now I'm back on the newest driver with no luck. When I use gpu shark, gpu 1 > http://puu.sh/edutT/a36ad067a1.png and gpu 2 > http://puu.sh/eduvB/6dbacffdc8.png. Gpu 2 says it's reached it's power limit? What does that mean? I really need help, please!

Then you answered your question.

Go back to the driver that worked.

But you insisted on using Furmark and there are some that write "stop doing that." (something along the lines fo doctor it hurts when I do this.)

I've learned to get my heatsink work done first. There are those that dig in their heels so my lesson is to let them have plenty of time living with their issues.

Do you recommend a program?

And I can't go back to my stock drivers. I try to after wiping everything, and it says it can't detect the card. That, and I can't play newer games as it tells me I need to update first. If you really think It's the heatsink, I'll see what I can do about it. I just want my PC to work like it used to. One gpu using all that power doesn't seem right to me.

That's odd.

The card not detected after a fresh install is classic. That is usually a forgotten step after installing Windows. In short it's 1. Install Windows.
2. Motherboard drivers.
3. Audio drivers.
4. GPU drivers.

On newer gear there are more things to install such as Intel's RST which is an app.

Your machine's maker should have detailed this out.

PS. The link I noted seemed to note other benchmarks. Looked OK to me.
