GTX 1050 Overclocking/Rainbow Six Problems

Mar 26, 2017 11:58AM PDT

Ok so I can get a +420 on memory and +140 on core (proly can get higher on core havent really tried) and it's stable through any benchmark, and every game i have...except for rainbow six. R6S will go to like 1900x900 borderless if i go past +120 core and +240 memory. What the hell would cause this? lol, I'm fairly tech savy, but this just absolutely baffles me.

All that says is RS is pushing some area of the machine harder than the other games or it's not coded well and the overclock brings out the fault.

Use RS as your test vehicle and see how far you can push the overclock.

Once you find the limit that's as far as your going to go.

So its literally just another ubisoft error? lolz. What should i be shooting for for my card in other games? cause in battlefront and bf1, i've not found my limit yet, but i can get to at least +280 on core and +480 on memory. Havent wanted to go farther just in case theres some risk to my mobo. And i really cant find any good answers to what i should shoot for for an overclock on the 1050. Its and MSI 1050 OC btw.

If you want to play RS then that will set the overclock limit.

If you take RS out of the mix then you can set the overclock higher.

Be aware that overclocking is stressful on the hardware so you best keep an eye on those temps.

How high should you go?.....beats me.

Ask yourself what's the purpose of the overclocking.

im an fps ***** so its getting every last fps i can get with my phenom xII 940 and gtx 1050 until i can afford to upgrade....to a 3 grand pc including a 1080ti and an R7 1700X.

Getting that last drop of blood can get expensive in the form of early failure.

I don't overclock but I want the machine to run as fast as it can.

Get the proper bios and drivers.
Be malware free.
Don't run extra/unneeded stuff in the background.

If that does not get me the speed I want then it's time to upgrade parts.

Overclocking is like that.

You push it till it breaks and for stability, pull back.

Just because it overclocks on benchmarks does not mean it can use that on games.

RE OC is like that

But in every other game its fine at the higher oc. just r6s breaks lol

Then as noted below.

Use r6s to determine your max clock rates. There's really nothing new to add here but I know that folk fresh to overclocking had a zillion questions.

But then is it safe for me to run a higher clock in everything else that accepts the higher clock speeds? And then just tone it down for R6S?

No one should tell you it's safe to overclock.

This is something you choose to do and no one should tell you it's safe.

Since I don't like to tinker like this, I run my stuff at stock clock rates. The few times I overclocked it was for stability so if I found a setting that worked for all, that's what I used.
