Question

GT72 6QD reinstalling steelseries engine

Jan 2, 2016 10:07AM PST

I am having a problem with my GT72 laptop. I just had to preform a factory reset, and now the steelseries engine refuses to launch, giving me a message that says "Driver not available, application will exit". I went to the steelseries website and tried the solutions they had there, but none of them worked. Is there any way I can re-download the engine, or does anyone know of a solution to this problem? Thanks

Are you sure the bios is at defaults?
Did you make restore media and use that to factory restore?

Ahh, new PC owner.

Can you share a direct link to the user manuals so I can see if they note the BIOS settings?

Sadly the manual didn't document BIOS or recovery.

However " Mon,7 Sep 2015 -
[Windows 10] What should I do if the SteelSeries Engine 3 stops working after performing a F3 system recovery?
Uninstall the SteelSeries Engine 3 first, and re-install it with the latest version downloaded from MSI website. "

So it appears the factory recovery has a defect. That's sad for a new laptop.

Even if that is a problem, at least I have something to go on now, thanks. I'll come back and report how it goes.

Nope

The Steelseries engine driver that the laptop uses is not downloadable from any other source. It comes pre-bundled with the computer, the regular steelseries engine 3 and 2 don't recognize the laptop, it needs the specific edition that comes with the Laptop. I'm going to call the MSI support line when they open on monday. Thanks for the help, even if we weren't able to get it working

FIX FOUND!!
Jul 3, 2016 11:43AM PDT

I found a fix!! I was also with the same issue with my MSI GT72s. All I did was find the driver re-downloader in the computer. Simply find the folder that the SteelSeries Engine is in. Mine was (This pc>OS_Install (CHappy > Program Files >Steel Series> SteelSeries Engine)

Then what you do is find and open a program called SSEFix in that folder, then click "reinstall Driver". Let it do it's thing, then make sure to shut off your computer and turn it back on. Voila! Worked for me and hopefully it will work for you guys! Spread the word if it did!

EDIT
Jul 3, 2016 12:19PM PDT

So apparently after restarting it again, the problem came back, so I tried downloading the SteelSeries engine 3 from the steel series website and that worked out. The original driver still there but the new one I downloaded took over and the keyboard glows again.
