Question

GS65 Stealth or Dell XPS 15

Jul 22, 2018 10:18PM PDT

I am planning to buy a new laptop and I am struck between 2 choices.

MSI GS65 with core i7 and GTX 1060 or Dell XPS 15 with core i7 and GTX 1050Ti.

I'll be using it for moderate gaming, 3D rendering and fluid flow simulations

Any other suggestions are also welcome( I need a thin and light since it is also my work laptop)

Answer
The 1060 is a step up in GPU power.

So it should win in benchmarks.

Overall opinion

What is the overall opinion? (Build quality, performance, customer service and long term use for about 3 to 4 years)

About customer service.

That's taken a dive since folk want help in fixing say a Windows issue and almost all the responses are "factory reset and let's see if that fixes it." To all I've asked about they tell me they don't consider this acceptable support or service.

My overall opinion is that if you take care of the laptop, replace keyboards, drives, fans and keep the vents clean with the usual canned air you can get to your 3 to 4 years. But there are folk that don't accept that you have to keep up with repair and maintenance. They want a brick.

I've yet to find such in the class machines you listed.
