Grey pop up messages like critical error repair registry....

May 4, 2005 6:39AM PDT

Virus scan, and registry clean up programs don't detect it. The message states Windows alert...critical error system unstable...to fix this problem download registry repair from www.registryfixit.com. These messages come frequently with different sites to visit. Also, it has warnings about things like viruses and the like.

My daughter just had this as well

and the way we fixed it was to do the following:

First go to MSCONFIG and uncheck everything that looks even mildly suspicious in the startup tab...then go to the Win.ini and System.ini tabs and look for the RUN= and LOAD= lines and uncheck everything that isn't familiar (most times these lines remain empty and that's a good thing)...do not reboot after you close MSCONFIG when asked.

Now run your anti-spyware program again, but make sure you get on the net and update the definitions for it first....then run the actual program and if you use Ad-Aware SE, don't use the quarantine button..instead click next for everything it finds, and then check everything listed...then click next again. This will force Ad-Aware to eliminate them all as I've found that sometimes just using the Quarantine button right away only takes out part of them.

Now go to Trend Micro (PC-cillin) - Free on-line Scan - very good at detecting 'joke' viruses http://housecall.antivirus.com or http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ A small Download Required

This problem is also mine. Will your solution work with Windows 2000. Maybe I just don't need to worry about the problem restoring itself.

Thanks,
Alan

If it's broke Repair It

You should probably repair your registry. I had a similar issue and fix it by running some program called Registry repair. I got it from here. http://www.stompsoft.com/registry-repair.html

I cleaned my registry and eliminated the registry errors. Now my system is running faster.

GoodLuck.

Never install any of these things they sell online! You'll regret it, seriously... In their end user agreements, they, always state that they're not responsible for any damages on your system.

It's not broke. There is no way for them to know what's in your registry unless they hacked into your computer. They just send these messages to every computer that's able to receive them, it's called spam...

I ran into this one before and had about 3 similar others. The popup blocker should stop it , if not on a windows 2000 pro with this problem, I used the google toolbar, end of that popup.
