Question

Grey Pixelated screen for LG 47LE5400

Apr 10, 2017 11:37AM PDT

Hi guys,

while watching tv yesterday, the screen abruptly turned green and grey and gradually changed to complete pixelated grey scale.

I tried powering down for the whole night and reconnecting everything, but did not help.

Answer
Try the old power off test.

Power off, remove AC for 10 or so minutes and try again.

TEST #2. Does the OSD work? (as you are now a TV technician I'll use abbreviations techs use daily.)

If the above fails my guess is a mainboard failure. Not user serviceable, get estimates.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

I powered off for the entire night and still the same issue.

The OSD works but is greyscale and pixelated.

any more leads or getting an estimate is best for now?

The OSD being pixelated

Is a bad sign. So the suspects are main board, panel and connections to/from panel. Remember the chances of a panel issue is low but I have to note it just in case. Some folk get upset when you don't list all the possibles.

As to best for now, I don't know your skill set, location and board cost/availability but late last year I replaced our main tv with a 350USD 49 inch LED LCD. Repairs can often exceed replacement costs so most of the decision to chance a board is up to you.
