GREAT news 4 women: wrning signs 4 early ovarian Ca detectn

Ovarian cancer has early warning signs.

>> Doctors have long assumed that ovarian cancer grows in secret, often producing no symptoms until it's too late.

Hoping to dispel that myth, three leading medical societies released a paper Wednesday to educate women and their doctors about its early warning signs.

Possible symptoms include:
?Pelvic or abdominal pain
?Bloating
?Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
? Urgent or frequent urination.

The problem is that everyone has these conditions on an occasional basis. The key is, women with more than one of these conditions that occurs almost daily for more than two or three weeks should immediately see a gynecologist, especially if the problems are new and/or severe. (This paragraph based on Dr. Nancy Snyderman's excellent interrpretation on NBC Nightly News last night.

This is great, important news because if detected early, the 5-year survival rate is 93%; by the time ovarian cancer is usually detected (by overt symptoms such as bleeding or severe pain "down there," the survival rate is down to a woeful 25%. Gilda Rattner, RIP.

A neighbor did not survive for long after the diagnosis was made. Even then, she looked quite healthy.
