Question

Great Computer; Doesn't game well

May 25, 2019 7:07AM PDT

Hi, I've recently purchased a Lenovo w520 Thinkpad
Yes, I know it is old, but on paper the specs are fantastic and should serve gaming and productivity needs, but it doesn't.

CPU: Intel i7-2620M CPU @2.7GHZ
RAM: 8gb
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
GPU: NVidia Quadro 1000m
Hard Drive: 237gb SSD

This system should do well running modern games, even on higher graphics settings, yet does not. Even simply scrolling on webpages can lag the computer. Opening tabs and just clicking around causes lag sometimes, as well. I have NVidia drivers installed and BIOS is set to default to NVidia for everything. I don't know why this computer is so bad, but I cannot really afford a better one. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ideally, this computer will suit my productivity needs, but also let me play the games I enjoy (which really aren't that graphically-intensive, compared to most): Paradox games and Total War
