Gray-Market Camera vs Authorized Dealer

by clint Graves / September 9, 2007 11:44 AM PDT

My Question is , Is there a difference in Quality of the Camera or is it in the service after purchase?
EOS40D in Canon Box from Prestige Camera. ( I know) The ccamera arrived with no regitration card or manual? My concern is the restocking fee is like 340.00. If the camera is good as far as Quality maybe I should keep it?

Thanks for any help

Usually bad news.

We've seen two issues with this.

1. It's not the make/model you expected.
2. There is no warranty since it was for another country.

You don't want to know the last issue. The serial numbers are obliterated.

Prestige Camera - Brooklyn

If you do a Google search for:
Prestige Camera review

you will find lots of negative information about that company.

It appears to be another alias for
A & M Photo World.
They do business under the following names:
Prestige Camera
Broadway Photo
Digital Liquidators
Preferred Photo
Prefered Photo
Wild Digital
Camera Addict

The Canon 40D is selling for $1,300 at authorized dealers.

If you actually paid less than that......there is not much telling what the history of that camera is.

Should you keep it?
I don't know.

I paid 1299.00 for camera! Plus extra for the "better" battery? I am going to try and return it tomorrow and see how that goes! Thanks for the help

In reply to: $ amount

They don't refund the money for weeks or months.

The names you see in this discussion (save auth dealers) are not that great to deal with.

I wish you the best of luck,
