"Gray Box" ERROR Pop-ups

Sep 24, 2004 1:53AM PDT

I hope someone in here can come to my rescue. Upon starting my computer, I keep getting these same (10) messages;
(1) MS Script Control: Unknown Error
(2) XJ025380.lnk (6) CFR93WC0.lnk
(3) 0CTO0Dl0.lnk (7) QNG4Z253.lnk
(4) C13GLC0D.lnk (Cool 27KY19T2.lnk
(5) OHJXMYTB.lnk (9) B531XE7D.lnk
(10) ZD8X4KXD.lnk

Any help getting rid of these? I have not noticed any difference in the way the computer runs, other than this.

Thanks to anyone(s) on this in advance.
Have a great day all,
"Mel"

Re: error at start up.

Tell your OS, then someone will tell you the best way to have a look which programs run at start-up and how to disable the ones you don't want (like the one giving this error message).
And also tell which anti-virus and anti-spyware programs you're running.

Explain what you mean with "gray box" and give the exact and full text of the message #2 through #11. I suspect they are more then just the shortcut name (which are remarkable indeed).

Mel,

In addition to answering Kee's questions...

Because those files are the name to "shorcuts" on the computer, and their names are extremely unusual, they could be connections to viruses, trojans or "malware" of some kind..

Please use the free online scanner links below to check for viruses:

Housecall Online Scanner

Panda Online Scanner

AFter that, download, install, update, then run the free spyware removal tools below:

Re: (1) MS Script Control: Unknown Error

Hi. I watched that message appear on my yoga teachers WinME system. After removing the 189 other things that I found, I was intrigued by it because it kept "reappearing". I tracked it to a Startup.ini entry that could not be deleted which means that user privilege control was being manipulated. I noticed that it changed during each reboot iteration. Very clever stuff.

I found a reference to remove it automatically. It is an addon module to Lavasoft's program called VX2 Cleaner that says it removes those type of tricks. This is the link: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=40483

All the Best.

MS Script Control: Unknown Error

I WENT TO THE WEB ADDRESS AND DOWNLOADED THE "VX2 Cleaner" BUT, CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IT TO RUN. IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE I NEED? SOME OTHER Lavasoft SOFTWARE OR SOMETHING?

You have to download
Dec 23, 2004 7:24AM PST

Ad-Aware SE from the same Lavasoft website, once that is downloaded, THEN you download the VX2 cleaner and it will install automatically in the Ad-Aware SE progam, which is something you should already be using anyway. Once you have both installed, click on the left of the interface where it says "add-ons", highlight the VX2 cleaner and then run the tool and follow the prompts.
