Graphics Help

May 27, 2016 4:45AM PDT

Please help. I upgraded my 4 year old laptop that had windows 7 on it too windows 10, months ago. I have had other issues that i wont go into, the main reason for this post is there is something wrong with my graphics since the upgrade to win10 and i cant seem to fix it. I have downloaded Nvidia graphics card for win10 and still it has not fixed the problem. I have just video tapped my screen and you can see the problem im having if you watch to the end, its only 30 seconds long.

If there is a tech that can help i would really appreciate it, i dont know if i can download a fix or need to have a new graphics card internally installed?

Was spotted on too many 840 and 860m video chipsets. The news isn't good but you left out make, model and more.

So few laptops have video "cards" as the chips are soldered down on the motherboard. Leavng out the make, model and details means members can't do much other than ask for you to complete your post.

Sorry

I totally forgot make and model. It is a Toshiba Satellite notebook, P770.
Since i posted the original post here i had help from a friend with the issue. He told me to go into Device manager and expand the Display drivers, there was the NVIDIA driver I had downloaded weeks ago and also a Intel driver. He told me to disable the Intel driver and see if that was the issue. So i did as he said. Right away it stopped the flicking on my screen! So i shut down my laptop and then turned it back on. Now i have more problems Sad
The icons on my desk top are big and icons i had deleted are back on there, all my browser pages are huge, i only have an option to shut down or restart. And when i click on NVIDIA control panel it tells me im not using it at the moment.
My friend also told me to download the Intel driver update utility, the only update it comes up with after scan is chipset driver.
So i guess my question now is have I ruined my computer? And where do i go from here?

At worst you have to do a factory restore.

The P770 is a series so members are still hampered to find drivers for you.

http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=3026499 does not have Windows 10 drivers so I know it sounds terrible but the full model number is required to see what you have and to check out drivers.

As to the chipset driver, I always update that.

I found the old invoice for the laptop. Here is what it says:

Answer
where did you get driver
May 27, 2016 9:55AM PDT

did you get the driver from your laptops manufacturer or someplace else? what is the exact problem. Not every helper is using a device that can access youtube. In addition, what are the other issues, could be related.

I got the driver
May 27, 2016 3:01PM PDT

off the NVIDIA web site as suggested by a friend weeks ago. If you couldn't see the youtube video im sorry about that. My screen when using my browser flicks and distorts all the time.
But if you read the reply i made above you will see i now have even more problems Sad

Woah now !

What you have to do is go to Toshiba and download all of the Windows 10 Drivers from them.
Drivers are built exclusively for some manufacturer's and all new drivers won't groove with your old stuff, soo....
Do that and give us an update.

This is the message i get when i try to find updates for my laptop:
PSBY3A-09M03E : The part number you entered is not a recognized device supporting upgrade to Windows 10. Sad

I guess thats why im having so many issues. It has already cost me money as i got a computer tech to come to home when i first upgraded it to win10. There was a driver error right from the start. Then i kept getting a critical error when i pressed on start menu. So i put it away and brought a new desk top, but its so slow compared to the old laptop. So i pulled the laptop out again and for some reason it said we need to do a few updates, so i let it and it re installed win10 again! I bet people do not believe the trouble i have had. Its been a merry go round with win10!

So, is Win 10 running now?

Yes its running win10, im typing to you from it. With disabling the Intel display driver last night, it has fixed the flicking that you may have seen in the youtube video. Which is great, But if you have read my replies since then i now have even more problems since disabling the driver. I can only shut down or restart, there is now no option to hibernate or log out etc. Everything is large size now, from my icons on desk top to my browser sites. I have tried to fix resolution but it only makes things even bigger. I am truly lost at what to do next

LOG OUT. I found that missing in the Start Menu.
May 27, 2016 6:08PM PDT

Try this next time. Press Alt+F4 until the menu comes up. See if Log Out is there.

ALSO. LEARN THE NEW Windows Key + the X KEY.
POWER MENU!!! I see the Sign Out there.

I just tried this and all it did was close my browser tabs and exit my browser. The only power options i have are shut down and restart.
I have thought about restoring it to Win7 but right now i cant be without a computer so if something bad was to happen while rolling back i would be very upset, so i have decided to leave it in the mess its in right now and deal with it until i can buy a new computer that compares to it. Happy

Yes, the only power options are that.
May 28, 2016 8:14AM PDT

That's why I noted the new Win+X menu.

The Win+X menu is called the Power User Menu by some but I see you may not have tried it but thought I wrote about the Start button and the Power menu items there. Here's a graphic of what it looks like with I press Win+X.

I am going to stick with what seems to be working ok for now and deal with this mess by buying a new computer in the near future.
Why it said my computer was compatible to down load Win10 i will never know! This has been a huge headache for me and i am sure im not the only one.

all of you for your help on this issue. I have resolved to leave the laptop alone for the time
being and not try to roll it back in fear worst things might happen!
I will fix this issue by buying a new laptop, im safe to say this one is a lost cause! Thanks Microsoft!

Answer
I had an issue with Nvidia
May 31, 2016 10:02AM PDT

on my Surface Book. I updated some Nvidia drivers and in device manager it show a yellow checkmark under Nvidia display adapter. So i right clicked and said search Internet for driver and it gave me the message installing NVIDIA driver and once it was complete. The yellow check disappeared and all was fine. Also the Nvidia Tool didn't run bit after I did the update it started working also.
