Question

Graphics card problem

Feb 22, 2016 7:51PM PST

Hi I have a PC with an nvidia gtx 560 graphics card w/ 1 HDMI and 1 dvi port. I use dvi to HDMI with my Toshiba hdtv. I have used just HDMI before. I never have to change my settings either, it always auto detects. So my bro disconnected my dvi to HDMI and put an HDMI and it gave no signal. Then I put back my dvi that didn't work anymore. So then I connected a regular Dell monitor with dvi to dvi and it works perfectly. Then I connect the HDMI and my PC detects it but still no signal on the TV. I then put the multiple monitor setting and it shows just the wallpaper on the monitor but still no signal on the TV. And when I right click and open resolution setting the window doesn't pop up so drag the monitor all the way from beyond the border to the right with sum luck. I have system restored and tried all sorts of things but nothing. Please help.

"my bro disconnected my dvi to HDMI and put an HDMI and it gave no signal. Then I put back my dvi that didn't work anymore"

So this is a convertor? Maybe it's broken now? You did dvi to a monitor successfully, so you KNOW the dvi output is working OK.

" then put the multiple monitor setting and it shows just the wallpaper on the monitor but still no signal on the TV. And when I right click and open resolution setting the window doesn't pop up "

Not sure if this is the DVI to HDMI, or the HDMI only. You have problems connecting to the resolution settings, which means your brother may have changed a resolution setting so it's now "out of bounds" of the TV capability. Is this TV both 720 and 1080 capable?

My bro just disconnect it and nothing else and when I plugged it back in it gave me the no signal box and it is 1080p 720p compatible. It also should be noted when I plug in the HDMI with my dvi monitor plugged in it automatically extends the display but still says no signal. It always auto detected so I never had to mess with resolution settings so it couldn't have been changed

then it must be some TV setting

Unplug the TV and then connect the HDMI and plug the TV back. Maybe that will do it. I've seen things just that odd work in these forums.

Dvi converter

And shouldn't be the converter because I've tried 3 different HDMI cables
