Graphics Card for Dell Optiplex GX280? No clue.

by justchillin602 / January 8, 2011 10:57 AM PST

I need a graphics card for my Dell Optiplex GX280. I don't know a lot about computers myself. I used to play starcraft 1 and it was fine but now starcraft 2 came out and I need a new graphics card to play it. I really only use my computer for business and light gaming. The starcraft 2 game box says the minimum video card is a 128 MB PCIe NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT or ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. I also know that my computer has an AGP small form factor slot and 2 full size PCI slots. Now I don't really know what that means, but it may help. Can anyone point me to a budget friendly video card that would satisfy my needs?

I'll check it out. I know it has to be small form factor if it is AGP so I don't know if this one will work but I call someone about it.

All the 6600's I saw were full height but not full length so all that's left is the dimension and power checks.

That Dell system isn't tolerate of improper sized new video card. As already stated to you, be sure you get one that's short in length and height. Plus, if that's AGP, your selection maybe limited not because it wasn't made but due to availability now, either way what Robert mentioned is on you to verify. Also, check what the return policy is if you get one that doesn't measure-up.

Ill definetly check it out. Is there a reason no one is suggesting a PCI card?

A reason.

There are few that could beat the 6600 you have now. I would find it hard to suggest even the usual Nvidia 9500GT 1GB since I have one and had the 6600, I think that it would be a let down.
