Question

Graphics adapter: can it daisy chain?

Jun 2, 2015 12:55PM PDT

Intel Q45/ Q43 Display adapter:

Running WIN8.1, Pro; other specs of the computer: Intel Quad core 2, Quad CPU, Q9550 @2.83Ghz, 8gb ram, 64 bit.

I have a new Dell U2415 displayport monitor with 1.2 capability.

I wish to daisy chain from the Dell to an Acer G226HQL monitor.

Is the graphics adapter certified to allow for this daisy chain setup? That is, Can graphics adapter support DPMST/ HBR2 (High Bit rate)

I can not seem to get a picture on the Acer, daisy chaining to the Dell and wonder if it is something I may have done incorrectly.

Can the issue be the ACER?

Please advise.

Why " NO?"

Thank you. Your answer confuses me.
Is the issue the pc's display adapter, the ACER or the cpu of the pc?

The pc has one display port out, and two VGA out.

The desired configuration is pc > display port out, to DELL Display port in, then DELL display port out to ACER DVI in. Via do to DVI cable.

So why is daisy chain not possible?

Pc?, display adapter (Q45/ Q43), cpu, or ACER?

Thanks in advance.

It's the issue the ACER, or the adapter?

You proved it didn't work.

You have DISPLAY PORT and it didn't work. Why it didn't is not in the clues here. http://www.displayport.org/cables/driving-multiple-displays-from-a-single-displayport-output/ details how to make it happen but fron what I've read no one has it working. The CPU noted showed up in 2008 which appears to pre-date display port 1.2. (you can check that out too.)

The onboard video if I decipher looks to be OK at a single display. More, not so much.

I know you may want a dissertation but no one seems to have done this and you found it didn't work. Time to pop in a new video card?

Thank you

No dissertation retired. Simply trying to understand. Apparently the CPU does not handle multiple displays, a la Daisy chain.

No problem.

Have a Surface Pro 3 with docking station that should work fine.

Was only attempting to get existing system up in daisy chain, and it can not be done with this system.

Video cards have never been cheaper.

I don't want to think how much I paid over the years. Today I just add the card.

Ok now you have my attenton

DO you think I can simply purchase a card/ adapter that will handle daisy chaining?

Intel folks have told me ("@RJL24, the Q955 CPU does not have integrated graphics") strongly implying the Q9550 processor itself can not handle daisy chain monitors.

And Yes the adapter too, (Q45/ Q43) may be a bit too dated also to do the trick.

Can you direct me to a "card" or rather help solve the problem, and well, there is no real "problem" only a minor convenience of daisy chaining.

My system is an HP Compaq 8000 Elite Ultra Slim Desktop Business PC

I currently use the two monitors extending the screen, separately fed by the pc, one via USB to HDMI (Dell) and the other via display port (Acer).

Just liking to fiddle with the technology.

Thanks a lot! I may just shop around if only to upgrade the graphics.
