Grandson needs notebook for college

Here are a few of the things the college requires for freshmen but they didn't list any brands. I don't know how to search on the board to get one with these items. The first Think Pad I looked at was a 40 not 50. Hope someone has the time to help me. Marge

IBM Think Pad R50
1.6 ghz centerian processor
15" active Maytrix Screen
512 mb
40 gb hard drive

2 things I would add.

In reply to: Grandson needs notebook for college

1. Either a CDRW or DVDRW drive. Somehow a person must save their work off the machine. Backup...

2. A warranty. At a local school here, they get an astounding 4 year warranty (excludes abuse, etc.) Given laptops are not bricklike in nature, a warranty for as long as the machine is needed is a good idea.

Bob, Thanks for using the word laptop. That's what I call them. Yes, they listed CDRW & DVD. Window XP, Office 2003 & of course Norton.

Thanks on the tip of the warranty. I guess his school in Rochester, NY doesn't sell them. 4y warranty sounds great.
