gradient transparency vanishes when printing to printer

Jun 19, 2005 6:06AM PDT

OS: windows xp
Printer: HP laserJet 3030
Microsoft Word:2002

in a word document ,whenever I choose to fill a shape (a circle or a rectangle or whatever) in a gradient transparency (using : fill color > fill effects > Gradient tab > {transparency>from:0%,to:100% ;shading style>whatever ;colors>whatever} )
I have no problem doing so and viewing the desired gradient transparency on display
but the trasparency disappears in the printing to my printer ,i.e. the transparency becomes 0% ,
i.e. nothing is 'seen through' this shape.
what is the problem?

thanks all
