General discussion

grabbing embedded video

Jan 3, 2009 5:44AM PST

Searching the web for applications to grab embedded video (you-tube and lots else) I find there is a lot of stuff for Windows and discussion of techniques used but the search for Mac equivalents is frustratingly meagre. I have found only the shareware YouTube Video Grabber 2.0 which needs Leopard whereas I have only Tiger 4.11. Am I missing other important applics? And does one need extra software to locate the URL to download?

Take a look a Perian. Google for it.

Once installed, it will allow you to do what you are trying to do.

Be sure to watch the instructional video's that are available on their site

Good Luck

While waiting for your answerI followed a link on your site recommending a look at Mac OSX Hints, where after a very long search I discovered a link to Cocoamug Software's CosmoPod which adds a extra ability and button to Safari enabling one to download embedded video with the greatest ease. I have just been testing it and have downloaded youtube and other films successfully with no hassle. I'll take a look at Perian, but I thought your readers might like to know of this new discovery too. Compared with what I was reading earlier about the efforts PC men have to make, CosmoPod is a cakewalk. It appears that the old solution of using a Firefox plugin no longer works since Firefox has been updated and refuses to recognize the plugin.

Note that CosmoPod is not free, there is a fee.

Perian is freeware
