Question

GPU Drivers uninstall themselves

May 4, 2018 9:56PM PDT

Hi as title says my GTX 1070's drivers uninstall themselves periodically. Here's what I've tried:
1. Turning off Automatic Windows Drivers Updates.
2. Turning of GeForce Experience Auto-Update Downloads.
3. Deleting the driver with DDU in Safe Mode and reinstalling them manually.
4. Deleting GeForce Experience.
5. Searching for the update in the "Hide or Show Microsoft Updates", although it doesn't appear there.

This problem has started very recently. I have had this GPU for about 5-8 months now and have never had this issue. In fact it is only with the most recent 397.31 driver update that I've had this issue. For some reason it will require me to reinstall the update. Sometimes several times a day. I have scoured the internet over and over about how to fix this issue but they all say the same thing. Either use "Hide or Show Microsoft Updates" software, uninstall with DDU, or turn off automatic windows updates. I'm at a total loss about what to do, its really annoying when I have to keep updating the driver over and over again. Please HELP!
-Thanks

Answer
NVIDIA Hotfix 397.55

This was fixed in a hotfix that I found through the NVIDIA support page here.

Just choose the version of Windows you have (I assume you have Windows 10 x64) then download. This hotfix is meant to fix this exact issue it seems.

Except its for Version 397.55.. The current version out is 397.31. Will that pose a problem if I use it?

I've yet to see either GPU maker issue a fix

For a specific version that was not a new version. If you want them to fix .31 and the version to remain .31 that would be a first ever fix.

Again, when they fix their drivers, it has has been by issuing a new version.

It will work.

The technical version of the driver is 397.00 the numbers after the decimal are hotfixes and whatnot for that driver version. So, if you go from what it is currently to 397.55 you will be fine. Because you are simply fixing it and moving up to the most current version.

Thanks for that.
