got a bad virus pls help asap

hi
last night i copied some data from a friend's usb but after copying the data i came to know that i wasn't able to open those copied folders as they were appearing as application.exe ,then i deleted them and restarted my pc but after rebooting i found that all my folder in my drive E were acting as an application and i wasn't able to access them and it included very important documents and some of my memories from childhood in the form of pics but now i can't even open them so please kindly help me asap
p.s. i can still access them by typing " . " in my search bar

Tell more like I've scanned with av etc. Can you boot into safe mode? You can get your "memories" by booting a Linux distro.

My machine is set to not autoboot when external drives are inserted. When I insert an USB I right-click on it and scan with MBAM and SAS. Not foolproof, but cuts the risk by a long way.

yup ive scanned it with avast first as smart scan but it didn't detect any viruses but when i did it manually it deleted the folder but i can still use them by typing dot in search bar or by using winrar.
and yes i can still do all other operations on my machine

If you can find your files that way, this means there's a chance for you to copy these files out to backups before you lose them.

Folk rarely get a second chance at saving their files. Will you take the opportunity?
