Google + Writely

Has anyone used Writely before?

Seems like a nice service, especially for blogging. Well now that Google has snatched up another one, I'm sure many MANY users will give Writely a shot.

This is from Writely's blog - http://writely.blogspot.com/

Google? Yep, Google! Claudia

Some of you have been worried about our future here at Writely. As one concerned user wrote:

"I love Writely, but... I was wondering, is there any way to send you guys some money? I understand it's free and all, but I just feel bad that you don't charge. Thanks!"

We appreciate the sentiment, and all the support we've gotten from our users, but thankfully, your donations won't be necessary, for one very exciting reason:

Writely is now part of Google!

Yes, we've been acquired by Google, and we're really excited about this for many, many reasons...

Writely

I've been using Writely since it's inception. I really love it. I don't really do much Word Processing, so seeing as I don't particularly care to pay for Microsoft Word for the minimum amount of word processing I do, Writely does just fine for me. And the online storage of your documents is a bonus.

One thing I want to see them implement is templates (i.e. Resumes, Invoices, etc...). That would be a wonderful addition to Writely. If Writely is developed with more tools, this program could endanger Microsoft's sales in Word big time.

Google is starting to become the Borg of Web 2.0 applications. Assimilating many sites. I am excited they are taking over Writely. Google's getting huge into this web 2.0 stuff...it might come down to them having to charge Google users, such as myself money per month. I will probably pay.

If they implement a calendar and their own online photo storage (competitive with Flickr), it's everything I need in a web 2.0 suite. I could see Google going after Planzo...which is a Calendar application on the web. It's wonderful!

That was my e-mail to them in that blog regarding payment. I am very happy with Writely and I would donate.

I have been playing with Writely for a while now, I don't use it for everyday usage because I am still using OpenOffice.org. However, with the combined feature set and now the acquisition of it by Google, it is sure to be EVEN better.

Could Someone Invite Me To Writely???
May 10, 2006 10:05AM PDT

I'm a student who wants to use writely for a collaborative paper but can't get a membership because they are closed off until they finish migrating to Google. However if you are already a member you can invite up to 50 people in even during the freeze. Would anyone be willing to add me as a collaborator to something so I can work on this project? My e-mail is
j a z h u p p @ m a c . c o m if you have it in your heart. The e-mail doesn't have any spaces in it but I'm trying to avoid the spam boots that fish these forums.
