Hi michala,
in the IP addresses of google itself in the address bar by typing in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in the address bar in IE9 by looking here: http://www.iplists.com/google.txt
and here: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_IP_address_for_Google
Microsoft KB help here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196
Read the entire page to look for what applies to you.
It is possible the host lookup file is corrupted on your computer.
To ping any address>Start>Run>type "cmd" (without the quotes)>enter
A command box will open.
Type in the url you want to ping as follows: ping bing.com>enter
Try ping www.google.com or ping google.com.
A successful ping result will show no packet loss. Failed ping will show 100% packet loss. It is important to note that you are running a test of the hosts file on your computer when you run this command.
Here is a link for a site "Is it just me or everyone?" here: http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
Just enter the website you are checking and click "is it just me?" link.
Hope this helps.
Happy holidays

Is there a problem with Google? My IE9 tells me it is not responding. I have no problem with any other website. NIS 2011 checks out O.K. as well as free versions of SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes..
