Resolved Question

Google Nexus 7 e-reader?

Jun 17, 2013 9:09PM PDT

Is the Google Nexus 7 suited as an e-reader?
Normal tablets are not, but I heard that the Nexus 7 is theexception to the rule. Who can give me the information?

I disagree.

I have a dozen tablets at the office and can't see where any have the edge.

Yes, we have a Nexus 7 so I can compare it. What made you think it's that much better?

Hi,
I mean usually tablets are no e-readers in the daylight or sun. I read that the Nexus 7 has that edge. can you confirm that?

I could not use it in direct sunlight.

It was OK in the shade. But having the screen set as bright as it can be would result in shorter battery times.

Are you telling me you've never seen a Nexus 7? No one has one? That's not good.

Thanks for your reply. Of course I have seen one, but never tested it myself. And ... I don't know anyone with a Nexus 7.
So, shade ok. Have you tested it out of the shade? Not bright sunlight, but for example sitting in a chair in your garden or on your balcony.

Sorry I don't think I can help.

I noted I tried it in the shade and then you asked again. I was on my patio and not in a garden or balcony.

Sorry that I couldn't answer your question.

Hi,
Sorry, didn't see your local time before. You were answering 'in the dark'. It's daytime now. Could you verify during the day. It would be grate!

Good hunting.

Odd to read your reply. Sorry but if I was unclear in that I tried in sunlight and shade during the daytime then all I can do is wish you well.

Remember that I would not use a color screen under such conditions. Try those paper white screens. Much better and yes, I've used those in full sunlight as well as other conditions except rain and snow.

The size of the Nexus 7 combined with the availability of several book stores make it a decent e-reader. The ergonomics make it comfortable to hold and the faux leather back makes it feels like you're carrying around a small leather bound book.
