Google Earth Blurry at Street View

May 29, 2010 1:00AM PDT

After upgrading to Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 745, Google Earth's street view is completely blurry. I have increased the cache memory, tried running it as an Administrator, changed from DirectX to OpenGL, and even uninstalled and re-installed the software. I kept a copy of Windows XP on a disconnected hard drive and when I go in and attach that hard drive to the computer and boot from it, Google works fine. But, when I go back and unattach the XP hard drive and boot in Windows 7, I have the same problem. I am running a dual core processor with 4GB of ram, although I do not think the machine is the issue since the program works fine when using XP on the same computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Let's hear more about this upgrade.

Many are trying to get by without installing drivers for motherboard, video and more. Some are using a Microsoft Update Driver button. At least the more seasoned folk know that nothing has changed here. Still the need to hunt down the drivers.

Upgrade
May 29, 2010 1:33AM PDT

The upgrade was pretty straight forward. I wanted to keep my old XP in tact, so I cloned it onto a new hard drive using Norton Ghost 12.0. Then, I disconnected the original hard drive and upgraded the new one using the Windows 7 cd and following the instructions for upgrading. After that I used the Windows Easy Transfer to get my files, documents, and settings. I had to upgrade and patch some of my software, but everything went well. (I did have an issue with a corrupt profile later on, but I simply created a new profile and deleted the old one.) I, then, let Windows 7 do an automatic download and install of upgrades. But, you are correct in assuming that I did not go the the Dell or motherboard site and upgrade from there.

I think the old ways are next.

In this order:

1. Motherboard driver.
2. Audio.
3. Video.

Good hunting!

Want Google Earth to work, use Linux instead.

Sorry, but Windows 7 was a bad idea Happy

But the forum topic is about 7. There is a Cnet Linux forum for you.
