General discussion

google-analytics

Feb 28, 2006 11:14AM PST

Hi,
I've noticed recently that some web sites were taking longer to load than usual and after a process of elimination I found that google-analytics appeared to be the reason.

Some research indicates that Google-analytics is an information gathering service to at least in part provide information to webmasters about the people who are visiting their sites ... I gather the information can be extensive.

The privacy issue bugs me but what also bugs me is the fact the my browser (Firefox) seems to take longer to load pages these days. I have blocked the google IP range to see if that makes a difference and it does ... its much faster, but clearly its not a preferred option.

I read somewhere that the analytics code can be removed, but not how. Does anyone know and please make it easy to follow ? im a new kid on the block.

I believe...

Now I'm not positive, but I believe you can do that by downloading the Firefox extension NoScript and setting it to block google-analytics.com. I also recommend the extension AdBlock, which does exactly that. They both take a little time to configure, but after a little training they are well worth it. If you want, grab Adblock Filterset.G Updater as well, which updates your AdBlock block list based on the negative feedback from other users.

Hope this helps,
John
