Good Quality portable speakers/portable cd player

by Salsero71 / August 12, 2010 6:50 AM PDT

Hope this isn't in the wrong forum 4 starters.

I teach dance classes so use cd's (may be convinced to transfer to using my ipod more).

I need something (portable speakers or a new good quality cd/mp3 player) which would have pretty loud/powerful speakers that won't let me down within a year. The sound 'quality' doesn't have to be great, but I need it to be able to have a good beat even above chatter or in a large community centre type environment.

Any advice/suggestions would be great. I'm budgeting for max $150.

Thanks

S.

I just bought these...

I just bought these portable speakers called AudioEngine2. They are powered speakers, so all you need is a wall plug. Your mp3 player plugs in and away you go. The sound is wonderful. Loud, clear, tight bass and all from a small speaker. The retail is $199 but I bought mine for $170. These speakers have received rave reviews from many websites, including CNET.

Thanks guys for the advice so far.

Dan, think now that you suggested the speakers, that I really am better off getting a new cd/mp3 player rather than just speakers. (trying to keep the weight of the stuff I lug around as light as possible!).

Cheers
