To keep it on subject of LCD projectors, there are 3 basic specs to consider
1.Nartive resolution(800x600,1024x768,etc)
2.Contrast ratio.
3.How bright in lumins.
There are other things, but I start first with thoes.
Sometimes the biggest difference between a $3500 and 30,000 unit is brightness. The $3500 has 1 lamp and can output 1200 lumins.
The $30,000 has 4 lamps and can output 7000 lumins and 4~8 times the heat and $3000 long throw lense to project to 30x20' screen 40' away. And vaporize a bull dozer, OK I'm kidding about the bull dozer part.
In a front projrctor HT ambient light can washout the picture so it has to be controled. Rear projectors are less sensitive to room lights.
So as long as you can control the ambient light in your viewing room it should look as good there as id did in the show room.
Yes, I remember the first color TV I saw in '56, it was color and it was realy bad. It had about 12 controls on the front to adjust the color, get it looking good then change the station and readjust all over again. John
Iam about to take the plung and get the SONY VLP-HS51 projector and 86" roll up screen 16x9but my concern is picture quality Ok the room is set up for home theater totally dark, good 6.1. audio I will feed my projector d.v.i from my hi-def sat and d.v.d player line from v.c.r and s vidio from my lazer disk player my 3 ton 65" 3 tube still looks cool smooth picture and average color output but the 3 panel l.c.d projector seems to be razer sharp and awsome color any way bottom line do you pros think I will get a better sharper picture with this set up $5500 is a ton of money for me. This unit looked awsome in the store so my final question is what picture difference would there be between this cheap Sony and lets say the QUALLa unit that sells for about $35000 This hi-def site is so cool but some of you folks post question like what kind of rabbit ears should I buy for my new Hi-Def,ready t.v. If your going hi-def you have to feed it thats what this forum is all about GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL stewart norrie
