Question

going from windows 8 to windows 7

Feb 9, 2014 3:38AM PST

I purchased a laptop (HP) with windows 8 loaded on it. I find it hard to use and would like to use Windows 7 instead. What kind of disk do I need to purchase to enable it to load and run successfully. Also this laptop does not have the touch screen.

Assuming (1) you can turn off UEFI and such, (2) HP has Windows 7 drivers for you to download and (3) you don't mind your warranty (on software issues) being voided, any Windows 7 install disk would be fine.
But it's much easier to download Start8 or Classic Shell and make Windows 8 look and behave like Windows 7.

Answer
Better idea is Classic Shell or Start8

I understand your perspective on Windows 8. However how about a FREE solution that makes Windows 8 look and feel like Windows 7? Go to www.classicshell.com and download Classic Shell. It gives you back the Start button and menu without removing the ability to use the Metro apps when/if you wish. An alternative to Classic Shell is Start8 which is $5. They both work about the same.

Please avoid learning about UEFI, drivers and more. Install Classic Shell and carry on.
