Sounds like a pretty simple case of shoddy equipment on your landlord's end of things. So you're either going to have to live with it, move, or secure a more reliable form of Internet access for yourself.
If there are any DSL providers in your area, often times they can set up what's called a dry loop, which provides a DSL signal (and no phone service) to a specific phone jack. You'll have to pay for the service of course, but having been in a very similar situation as you a couple of years ago, trust me, it's worth it.
I have a desktop PC running win 7,that is using a linksys
USB access point. I receive my wireless
from my landlords secured router.
Intermittently, days, hours, or even minutes I lose conduction to the
Internet. I'm still connected to the
network but lose my Internet connectivity.
This problem is driving me crazy as I think that I have
tested each part of the system. At home
I have lost the Internet on my desktop, but my laptop stays connected and works
with no problem. My next thought was the
access point was bad. When I took my
entire computer and the access point to a friend's house it ran for weeks
without any problem. What I brought it
back to my house I started having the same problems again.
At times I can disconnect and then reconnect to the network
and everything is OK. Other times I have
to remove the access point for a couple of minutes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
