Global warming - temperature records "adjusted"?

Feb 8, 2015 6:43PM PST

I am one of those who believe that humanity and it's industrial, farming, social and other excesses are affecting global temperatures.

However, when I read things like "The fiddling with temperature data is the biggest science scandal ever", (MSN via "The Telegraph" UK newspaper), even I have to consider what we are being told.

Figures often speak for themselves; but if those figures are being manipulated then they are worthless. Who, then, do we trust?

It would seem that, if we're so interested in limiting man's

affect on global temperature, we'd begin the process of installing accurate sensing devices using some logic in their placement now. We'd begin recording now rather than try to use old data with equipment that may or may not be accurate to the tolerances we want to see. It makes no sense to think we can be accurate to the tenths and hundredths of a degree without using some scientifically controlled method. We know that the deep ocean also plays a role in global temperature. We also have considerable evidence that the earth has been through a number of warming and cooling cycles of varying intensities before and during man's time. What I'm seeing mostly is an opportunity for politicians to use this data as a prediction of doom if we don't elect them to office. They've run out of real reasons to keep themselves employed by the taxpayer. There can be no doubt that the temperature on our earth has been perfectly stable for its entire existence. We need to learn to live with that knowledge and try to enjoy the short time we have here.

along with Steven's statements regarding politicians, of why so many have been on the 'other side of the fence' of this issue. Somewhere along the line, people rely most on their own common sense and 'gut' regarding the trust aspect. We see far too often the highest level of 'pushers' making billions of dollars while forcing additional costs to the lowest level of the population to pay for their agendas.

It's "global" warning NOT "Glen Burnie" warming.

You're sitting there in a warm room at your computer moaning about how cold it is?

It could be a lot worse.

And as I think I told you, people abandon the ordinary rules of language when Christianity is the subject. 'Father means son means father...'

Feb 12, 2015 7:38AM PST

First, language is all we have for commuication, and written is considered better than spoken for the important things. (Mortgages, auto purchases, learning about Jehovah...)
Second Jesus may well have said- and did say- more important things. One of them is at John 17:3, quoted from the KJV in my question to Bill. (James got the wrong answer, as usual.) Is it different in your Catholic Bibles? (Note the plural.)
Third, this man staked his life on having accurate_knowledge (Gk. epi_gnosis, not gnosis) from God: "All
scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." Is it different in your Catholic Bibles? (Note the plural.)
Fourth, your church sets "those gospel guys" as your saints. I hear the fagots a cracklin'...

usually ignored by Trinitarians are the same in all Bibles. John 17:3; Rev 3:12; Rev 14:14 and so on. Each- in plain language understood by my 5th graders- shows two eternally separate people, and no mention of a third. Since you embedded no recordings of the original conversations, I'll stick to the written.

James, you know this. Bill, you don't:
Feb 12, 2015 7:26AM PST

John 17:1 ff. These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee..
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent...
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are...
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me...
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me...
And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Question for both: Just after he said these things, he died. So, how could he say he "will declare" God's name- and Jesus has just established that God is another person than himself- if he's no longer here? Is anyone doing it for him?

........

Sorry, James, that's the wrong answer. Bill, what do you think?

- Collapse -
glorify
Feb 12, 2015 12:56PM PST

If glory comes from the Father, then how is it he is also glorified by the son? The greater glorifies the lesser, or they both glorify each other? Maybe because they are "one"? Your problem is you refuse to follow "chain of command". If you served, you should know what that is, and understand it's principle. You have to deal with the son, follow the son, if you wish we'll even say "witness the son", but you want to do an end around run because there are elements of the son you reject. This leaves you in the first century group which also failed to acknowledge his authority and laid claim to having the Father, as if Christ was not their Mediator between them and the Father. Refuse the mediator and the Father will refuse you.
