Isn't the future Javascript and HTML5? Why build on the past?

Strange to be mandating projects that don't align with the current and future web apps.

Time to have a chat with the prof.

If you want to impress the prof., consider creating a dynamic system that ties into a database to retrieve and update information. An example of that is a URL Checker. Another option would be to employ a Web Service such as a Page Rank Checker whereby you are employing the services of several different sites and combining them to offer your own unique service. Finally, another option may be to create a Facebook like site without all the bells and whistles that enables users to upload pictures, an online store that takes CC info, or a site that does both.

My guess is that your professor would like to see that you understand dynamic data exchange, session management, clustering and a command of the gui interface.
