I don't use GIMP but I understand it is image editing software. That might be a too simplistic description as I have seen it recommended often in these forums and it is well thought of.
I am not entirely sure I understand why it would be looking for Font data when it loads, but I assume that users can add and edit text to images and that would make sense. Gimp would search the system for installed Fonts.
So, that might be a clue. Are there any corrupt fonts installed on this system? If a font is corrupted then I can see that some software that needs fonts might fail when searching for them and/or attempting to retrieve font details. Not sure how you can check this and since I don't know what OS you are using that's all I can suggest.
Have you made any additions or changes to fonts recently? Any other problems noticed on this system lately?

Not sure if this is the right section of the forums, sorry if it is not.
My Gimp is not working. It won't launch. It stops responding when it is loading on the "looking for data (fonts) part of when it loads. I have tried completely un-installing and reinstalling and that doesn't help. It worked yesterday. Any one know what is happening and how to fix it?
