it says that the gif graphics filter is missing. that's it. thanks for any help you can give
I can't be specific because I don't know specifically what your problem is. According to Microsoft's support website, there are a couple of the related files needed for the GIF filter and support:
Gifimp32.flt
which should be in the
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt
folder.
Also you will need
Lfgif11n.dll
which should be in the
C:\Windows\System
folder.
Good luck in trying to located these file. You may find that they are in compressed format, and you may have to unpack them from some CAB (cabinet) file and even uncompress them, before placing them into their respective folders.
i told you i am a computer dummy. i did locate the gifimp32.flt file. it wouldn't open i had to click on and it led me to online screen but i didn't know what to do with it. (yup i'm not computer suave) then i tried something else and now when i click on the file in microsoft shared folder the following shows up. commandline option syntax error. type command/help
the other file is not in the window system folder. i don't know how to unpack from cab. i guess i should get someone to look at it for me. unless you can give a step by step procedure.
thanks againg for trying
I realize you are not a ''computer geek'' and so this is not so much a criticism as a realization. Only files that end in recognizable (to the operating system, the OS) file extension (the last 3 characters of the file name, after the last period) extension, are going to do anything (such as open) with that file.
The ''gifimp32.flt'' (probably a filter file, judging from the .flt extension) is a sort of file that the OS is not going to know what to do with, but your MS Picture It will.
In that case, you do not (click on to) open, but you just ensure that the file is in the correct location so that when you are using Picture It it finds the filter file.
I mentioned that that file should be located in the
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt
folder.
Just place it there and see if that works.
From what you have mentioned, the other file the Lfgif11n.dll, not being in the Windows\system folder, may actually be your problem.
It also sounds like you really ought to find a computer geek in your neck of the woods and buy him (or her) a coke and a donut and tell them your problems. Perhaps that would be the most expedient path to your resolution.
Sure, I could go on and on and tell you step by step in perhaps getting you to fix this problem, but that really is tedious, and often very frustrating. And, besides, the other people might just get annoyed and tell us to "take it offline."
I really think that just even reinstalling your Picture It software might just be a quicker solution.
Good luck.
i appreciate your time. i will get someone to look at it. i have tried to reinstall it. God bless
