Ghost Laptos & Windows XP

Nov 14, 2004 3:25AM PST

We use Ghost when replacing hard drives on desktops with Windows XP and it works well.
However when we try to use ghost on Laptops with Windows XP the Laptop will not boot. (Operating System not Found)
Here are the steps we take:
Remove the drive from the Laptop install it in a PC.
Place a new formatted drive in the PC as well.
We then Ghost the drive & put the new drive in the Laptop.
We then boot the Laptop & get (Operating System not Found)
We have tried Fix boot/FixMBR & XP 1st & 2nd Repair

What is going on?

Ghost Laptop & Xp
Feb 22, 2005 1:06PM PST

Hey broe, I've had the same problem too. The XP Pro SP2 i ghosted was in installed on a Compaq Evo N1050v. I removed the internal hardisk and connected it to my desk pc. Ghosted the image. I then formatted the laptop harddisk. I made two partitions, then restored the ghost image on the c: partion.

Now when I boot up the laptop it also gave me the message:

'PXE-E61: Media test failure; check cable'
'Operating System Not found'

I also tried: FIXMBR, FIXBOOT but I couldnt help. I even tried repairing the windows installation but still cudnt. Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!

Ghosting for Laptops
May 6, 2005 2:13AM PDT

I seem to have the same problem and have been to various sites with no success implementing the "solutions". I created an image on a desktop but when moving to a laptop it will not boot into XP but can "select" Safe Mode. All this does is give you the boot.ini file line by line and then it stops at the C:\windows\system32\drivers ntfs.sys file. It used to stop prior to that file but was able to disable certain services by using the install CD and going into Repair. The "listsvc" command will tell you what services are running and when they start. Disable several agp services. Thought at the time that the video drivers were messing things up. Apparently not the case. Tried renaming the ntfs.sys file and copying the one from the install disk. Again, no good. At a complete loss here. Have been able to get it to work across platforms on a separate image but we have different nets that require different things. Not able to get this one to work.
If y'all have suggestions I would gladly try about anything.
