Getting video out from my laptop

Nov 12, 2005 6:42AM PST

I have a Gateway 6518GZ, I know... Gateways are crap but I needed something that wasn't too expensive for homework and listening to music while doing my homework. Compared to my other options at retailers, this laptop was a perfect match for me (at the time) But as I was introduced to the vast possibilities of college, I realized I made a mistake. My laptop doesn't have a video out, which was a big mistake on my part because watching movies on a big TV while laying down on my bed beats watching it on a laptop sitting on an uncomfy chair (though this 15.4'' widescreen, UltraBright screen is amazing).

So I have no TV out...

The laptop is fairly new (got it at the end of summer) and has four USB 2.0 ports, 1 PCI slot, and a VGA port (15 pin)... is there any way to get output from any of those things so that I can use a TV with my laptop to watch movies? I've seen this dongle (or whatever) to convert VGA to composite but I've heard those won't work for what I want to do.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
