Getting Thumbnail Views of Photos on D Drive?

by carver6140 / January 27, 2009 4:16 AM PST

I have an older HP computer with Windows 98 that has been gathering dust for awhile. I just got it going again with no intention of ever connecting it to the internet. Its only use will be for viewing and storing photos and a bit of word processing. When I first put it back into operation it would not show Thumbnails; it only showed icons and lists. I now have Thumbnails views of photos stored in My Pictures, but when I want to import photos from D Drive it still only shows either icons or lists.

1. How can I get icons of the photos in D Drive to appear?

2. Is there a good shareware photo handling program that will work in Win 98? (I could download it to my other computer and transfer it if there is.)

Is Drive D CD/DVD Drive?

The drive apparently is only a CD drive. I cannot play any videos.

Can't cache thumbnails and Explorer does that.

It's not a bug but look in Explorer's options to disable thumbnail caching.

I am not sure what I should be doing. As instructed on that link, I right-clicked on START, choose EXPLORE/START MENU/PROGRAMS. I was then to right-click on Windows Explorer. But there was no Windows Explorer listed there.

Let's say I double click on My Computer.

Keeping in mind people may rename that icon you can also click Start, run, and put in EXPLORER and hit enter.

Forgive me but given how old Windows 98 is, how could you not know what EXPLORER is? Again, sorry but I gotta ask.

Bob,

Given how old my head is and that it is dustier than my old computer, I have to answer: It had nothing to do with knowing or not knowing what Windows Explorer is.
I was following instructions. I assumed (I know that assumptions can be a problem in themselves) that if I did something other than what was suggested that I had no right to wonder why it did not work. I reported what happened because I thought it might be important that Windows Explorer was not found where it was supposed to be. Sorry that was not he thing to do.

Somehow you ran Explorer.

Explorer is your usual Windows file explorer with lots of nuggets and issues. We gotta know what we discussing at times.

Sorry but I had to ask.
Bob
