Getting started with Outlook

by Vince.Rosati / August 14, 2006 5:29 AM PDT

I recently bought Office 2003 Pro, and it includes Outlook.

Is there a source of information that tells me how to get Outlook running? If I just click on the icon, a message says that the "MS Exchange Server is unavailable." If I try to work offline, I get a message saying, "Unable to open Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened."

I'm completely in the dark (and I thought I was so smart!).

I'm afraid I need a step-by-step process.

I am presently using a cable modem, via Optimum Online. My present e-mail application is MSN.

Is there a site for this sort of thing?

Thanks,

Vince

You have to setup your Outlook
by ChuckT / August 14, 2006 7:33 AM PDT

Have you checked with your ISP's Outlook setup settings?
You won't be using a MS Exchange Server (that typically is for inside businesses where they have in-house servers).

I went to the Optimum Online website: http://www.optonline.net/Home
and they say that you set up your
incoming POP3 server name: mail.optonline.net
outgoing SMTP server name: mail.optonline.net

There are more steps detailed on the Optimum Online website, refer there for more details.
