Question

Getting Started

Mar 15, 2012 12:01AM PDT

I'm just starting to learn web building on my own and need some resource tips. I'm having trouble finding out where to start with editing a site I recently acquired, and I haven't found consistent information on the web or from books.

The site was designed using Front Page and is on a local server (which I did not set up). I want to edit the site (preferably off line) and it needs to be user friendly.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated!

If it was made in Frontpage, I'd
(a) Buy and install Frontpage on my PC
(b) Get the Frontpage source of the site (that's what Frontpage used to generate the site)
(c) Buy one or two good books about the version of Frontpage you use.

Depending on white the site is doing

it might not be a bad idea to re-evaluate whether Front Page is still the best way to go. It might be time to rebuild the website to a more modern standard or use something like a CMS (Wordpress/Drupal).

How big is the site?

Big or small I would recommend a rebuild; getting rid of any connection to FrontPage. There are better ways these days. Do you have a URL? If you do that would be helpful to decide the right way to go for your situation.
