Getting Started

Sep 4, 2008 11:37AM PDT

I would like to learn how to develop interactive web apps, without a WYSIWYG editor. Though am a real novice at this. Would anyone please provide some advice as to where I should begin, what resources are good, what I should focus on, etc...?

Thanks!

"interactive web apps"?

Something like this forum, like google, like your bank with its electronic banking application? A webshop? A web-based word-processor? A content management system? A dating-service? A booking-site for theaters in London?

Just a few ideas of what you've in mind for your first project would help.

What I was thinking

I was thinking of a Web 2.0 site with a CMS, perhaps something similar to a Yelp or Facebook.

Thanks,
Greg

Ask yourself a simple question.

How many programmers did it take to make Yelp or Facebook?

I did encounter someone that thought it was something they bought to make a website!

Great Point

Great point, though I would like a general understanding of the underling code of such a site.

Some web authoring business. Nothing like a few classes then diving into the fire.
